The purpose of MMRC fellowships is to support and mentor individuals undertaking midwifery research who are not principal investigators. Fellows will participate in research that is consistent with the Centre’s mission and vision including improving maternal child outcomes, enhancing health service provision for families and newborns, and advancing health professional education.

Susana Ku is a Registered Midwife in Ontario, Canada. Before starting her career in Canada, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Midwifery in Peru and obtained a master’s degree in Sexual and Reproductive Health in Peru. In addition to her academic background, she has also performed as a clinical preceptor and Midwifery instructor in the Midwifery education program in Peru and Canada. She is a Committee Member in the Virtual International Day of the Midwife Conference. She is currently involved in global health projects because global midwifery is one of her research interests. Her other main areas of interest childbearing and human rights, promotion of equity in health, use of technology for continuing education, provision of quality midwifery care during crisis and choice of birthplace. Susana has recently been accepted as a student on the PhD program in Global Health from McMaster University.

Claire Ramlogan-Salanga is a registered midwife, sessional instructor with the McMaster Midwifery Education Program and current Master’s of Science in Health Education thesis student. She is a recent recipient of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship and the HSED Outstanding Achievement Award from the Faculty of Health Science. Her leadership positions include Chair of Council at the College of Midwives of Ontario and a founding member of the Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Canadian Midwifery Regulator Council. An additional contribution to the midwifery community is her development of the IBPOC Peer Review program that supports community building and information sharing. Her research interests include health education, social justice education reform, intersectional approaches to research design and health equity.
